The chaos at UK airports continues. We suggest how much earlier you should turn up before your departure time so you don’t miss your plane during the peak holiday season.
Dantean scenes have been happening at UK airports for days. Huge queues are forming to check in baggage and security checks are also taking a long time.
There is also a problem at baggage reclaim after landing. Travellers are forced to wait so long that some give up and turn up at the airport a day later, for example, to collect their suitcase.
Airport staff do not necessarily deal well with such luggage. At Manchester Airport, unclaimed suitcases were thrown off the baggage belt and lay like that for several hours!
There was also a story in the media about a family from Manchester who arrived at the airport four hours before departure. They wanted to fly out of the UK with young children, so they gave themselves extra time.
What they found at the airport was beyond their imagination. There was such a queue to check in their luggage that one could get lost in the crowd.
In addition, the family in question encountered problems with their children’s tickets. The hotline staff of a low-cost airline incorrectly entered the children’s details and ages, so that they still had to approach the passenger counter to make changes.
After this, the family again had to stand in line for baggage claim and check-in. As a result, they only approached the security checkpoint a few dozen minutes before departure.
When they arrived at the gates, it turned out that the plane was already loaded and four people were not allowed on board – even though they had valid tickets and the delay was not their fault.
What’s more, it was supposed to be a holiday departure – with over £1,500 worth of accommodation booked. All the money was lost, as the next flight to their destination was only due in three days….
Keep this in mind as the peak holiday season is about to begin. Some of us, unfortunately, will not get where we wanted to go.
