Scientists and doctors are raising the alarm – we are witnessing the sixth wave of the coronavirus pandemic, with a seventh coming this winter. All because of a new Covid mutation – BA.5.
It’s been a long time since we’ve had more worrying news about coronavirus for you. In the UK, things still look seemingly calm. Unfortunately, things are getting worse in Europe and the forecast for the Isles is alarming.
Scientists have discovered a new mutation of the virus, BA.5, which has been named Centaurus. Although it does not cause a very severe form of infection, it is the most contagious of all known mutations!
This is not the worst news. It turns out that Centaurus is resistant to both vaccines and the protection produced by an organism that has already had the infection!
Among others, Professor Eric Topol, one of the best-known virologists in the USA, talks about BA.5. According to him, a patient can become infected with Centaurus as early as 28 days after experiencing any other strain of coronavirus.
Unfortunately, the reflection of the ‘virulence’ of the new mutation can be seen in statistics from Europe. In Germany or Portugal, clear increases are already visible and there is talk of a sixth wave there.
The NHS also reports a worrying trend. The situation is similar in Poland. And Cyprus, for example, has rolled back some of the restrictions – despite the peak tourist season.
From Boris Johnson’s announcement a few months ago, it was clear that there would be no further lockdowns and no return to injunctions. – We have to learn to live with the virus, like with the flu, the Prime Minister urged.
Soon, however, his successor will sit on the stool. And his decision is difficult to predict – especially if he is faced with overcrowded hospitals, a limping health service and the spectre of a “winter menacing wave of infections” as his first challenge.
